Jury Duty
The Federal Jury System Improvements Act of 1978
("Jury Act") requires employers to provide permanent employees leaves for jury
service in federal court. An employer may not discharge, threaten to discharge,
intimidate, or coerce any employee by reason of jury service. In California, an
employer is prohibited from discharging, discriminating or retaliating against
an employee for taking time off to serve as required by law on an inquest jury
or trial jury, if the employee, prior to taking the time off, gives reasonable
notice to the employer that he or she is required to serve.
